Chapter II

Journey to Kiriana

A light rain began to fall in the skies near Kiriana. They were close to the forest of nature and most of the party couldn't wait to reach their homeland.
Shaidar seemed occupied with his surroundings and Kiara felt his discomfort in these supposedly 'uncontrolled' lands.
As they continued on they came upon a small tribe of elves which utilised some of the land near Kiriana. They were outcasts in the elven society and were given this land as their own. In return they were to guard this area from strangers trying to enter Kiriana, that is why Shaidar and Toabus were forced to stay outside their boundaries.
The tribes people were kind enough to replenish supplies and direct the party on a safe path to Kiriana but kept a close watch on the outcasts as dealings with humans and cow people was forbidden in this tribe.
Once they left the Monowaki homeland they ventured on to their destination with two less people. Their group was left with Kiara, Shaidar, Riana and Toabus.
As Toabus was the strongest of them all he took the front ranks but needed directions towards the great forest as it all seemed the same to him.

As they made camp Kiara seemed uncomfortable in the area Shaidar had chosen to be safe. She new he new nothing about these lands but respected his ability to track well and therefore gave him a chance at choosing a safe haven for that night.
Kiara had meditated well that morning in spite of her lack of meditation two days earlier.
She had learnt much from the goddess since they left Dellemar, which was two nights ago and prayed a short prayer for the blessing of her being chosen.
Before the group were to rest Kiara thought it was time to experiment with a spell the goddess was teaching her.
This spell had the ability to make an action or another spell occur when a certain barrier was crossed which was meant for protection in an unsafe area. As her trust for Shaidar was still low she decided for the parties sake she must do this to protect them until morning.
She had only learnt the most basic arts of this spell and decided for her sake to place some elements of human magic into it.
Kiara told the group of her actions and they all agreed as the forests around Kiriana were swarming with monsters who weren't permitted to cross the boundaries of the great forest.
Kiara picked up a stick and drew a circle around their camp which, if crossed would let off a screeching sound which was supposed to wake the people inside the camp. Kiara chose this as she wanted to use as little of the human magic as possible, and this was a spell she learnt as a child and had mastered in mere weeks.
She moved to the north of the circle and sat placing a single leaf outside the line she had drawn with her sitting inside the line.
She focused on the leaf and felt a new force of energy unfamiliar to her. She set herself in a trans, which helped her weave this energy into the spell she had chosen to use. As the memories of her dreams recalled in her mind she felt the trees around her sway as she continued to concentrate on the goddesses teachings.
The force of nature filled her with power as she rose from her body and traced the circle with the finger life and layed the spell to rest for the night.
This power filled her with nothing but joy as the grasses and blossoms called her to their need. She asked them but one favour for this night and they could only agree as she was the chosen one.
She could feel immense power flowing through her mind, the force of the elements was at her will, if only she knew how to control its power.
When she had began the goddesses blessing, the spell had transformed from a simple spell to a favour of nature, which she now new would be the basis of her power.
The grasses would somehow warn her of intruders and the blossoms of which she felt would keep them out as best they could.
She was still unsure of how grass and blossoms would aid her from ogres so she opened her mind to the teaching of her tutor and recalled the spell of screech which she remembered with great ease. She saw the rune with her mental eyes and began to weave it into living air. As she continued on she felt the emptiness of human magic and remembered the great emotion she felt in her last spell.
As the rune was layed she traced it with her mind, using a telekenetic spell to stamp the rune around the line she had drawn.
Her new spell would cause an invisible line to appear around her camp and set off a screeching rage if anyone were to pass.
She thanked the goddess for providing the greatest part of the spell, the line and human magic for the screech. She was still unaware of the grasses and blossoms but put them aside from her thoughts as she regained life and walked to her area of rest.
As she slowly fell into the time of dreaming she began to recall her long lost love. She recalled the first time she saw him, only young but still aware. He gazed into her eyes before speeding away like a frightened little boy, only to return to her hours later in search for needed love. She missed him like she missed her own departed mother whom she loved as much as the goddess herself. The outside world disappeared as she silently drifted into a deep sleep.

As he sensed their presence closing in he decided it was time to open his eyes, for their grey colour could surely not be seen in such dark. They opened wide and he could vaguely see four figures stalking in the distance. He had heard the fall one of them had taken minutes ago and decided he couldn't trust a mere elves spell to guard him from the blade of an assassin. He believed the true art of magic was conjured by the great human magicians of all time, one of which he would be soon although no one in this party knew.
He slowly reached for his dagger, his need for it would be critical if they decided to continue in this direction. The rings on his finger reflected the moonlight as he slowly and carefully put on his boots. The elves had some good points, their boots were completely silent even when treading on leaves, which helped the thieving side of him greatly.
As he silently crouched he moved towards his friend Toabus whom had been half awake as the sound of movement. They both decided to leave the two women of the party alone to rest as they could not accomplish much in hand to hand combat. The stalkers were twenty feet away from the spell Kiara had cast and Shaidar began to worry. His senses began to rejoin his still asleep mind as he and Toabus slowly took positions at either end of the circle.
The stalkers seemed to split up until they all circled the camp. As they began to close in on the innocent party a slight wind seemed to blow around the circle. The stalkers took no notice of it and continued on their way. The wind got stronger and stronger until the pollen in the surrounding flowers seemed to flow around the camp and be inhaled by the stalkers. They crept closer and closer until they began to feel slightly dizzy until reaching 10 feet outside camp.
Toabus and Shaidar saw them all to be human but noticed they were having trouble walking on the grass beneath them.
The grass beneath them seemed to be swaying and swaying with so much force it rocked them gently with the wind. As the pollen began to take full effect the unwanted visitors began to slowly drift into a soft silent sleep, while slowly heading for the ground.
The pollen still swirling around the camp along with the wind gently layed the stalkers to rest just outside the boundary of the circle of magic.
Shaidar, still unwilling to believe that elfish magic could keep these men asleep for long decided to stay at watch for the rest of the night. Toabus on the other hand was happy that it did the job and decided his incomplete sleep should be completed.
As he lay to rest the stalkers were slowly finding comfort in the grasses they were sleeping on. One of the more action oriented of them moved a bit too fast and his sword came out of its sheath and slowly slid down his side to rest on the floor. what it had also done was cross the boundary of magic and set off the spell which Kiara cast down for their protection.
As the runes instantaneously lifted from the ground to form the spell she caster wished to be performed Kiara felt the trap being sprung, as it's first job was to warn her, and got up out of her rest. She saw the runes take their shape and noticed the stalker fast asleep, and also the sword, which sprung the trap. She cursed the ways of human magic and stood up with her bow at hand. She new it was too late to stop the spell until suddenly all she could hear was a loud screech which could have woken up the dead.
Because of this Toabus and Riana were woken up, but so were the stalkers who new nothing of the past half hour. The group woke up to see Shaidar with a blade to the throat of one of the men and motioning for the others to do the same before they could get their swords.
The two half-awake party members brought their weapons to their hands and ran to the stalkers closest to them. Riana and Toabus both had blades so that left Kiara with only her staff as she didn't believe in death by the blade. She was left to rumble with her enemy as he re-gained some of his balance and got to his feet. He sub-consciously pulled out his dagger which was then flicked out of hand by Kiara. Kiara was shocked by the way he would treat a woman so began to use her fists instead of open hand combat. She didn't do much harm to his well built body so she decided her staff would inflict enough damage to make him fall unconscious. Her perception was true and seconds later after a blow to the head he was on the floor.
The remaining party members were tying up their victims to trees and hoping the best for their fighting friend.
An hour later the group of adventurers found out that the stalkers were hired by an unknown man to murder Kiara and anyone she was with. this seemed to shock Kiara as her first thought was 'who would want an innocent elf like me?', but then remembered the incident as Dellemar with the racist guard and asked herself if he'd have the strength to hire assassins.
The party let the stalkers go without weapons, shoes or armour but gave them a day's ration to get them home, after all it wasn't them who were after her it was the human guard...were their thoughts.
They decided they would make up for their lost sleep in Kiriana and began adventuring again once the assassins were out of sight...elfish sight that was.
They continued until midday when kiara saw the sacred trees of the Kirianon forest. They had made this journey, but now the adventure begins.
