Dragons Throne

Chapter 1

Dellemar

As she walked down the pathway she saw the large gates sparkling on the horizon. She estimated about one more hours walk to Dellemar and saddened slightly. She would have to stay outside her habitat while she waited in the largest city on Korion.
As time went by she thought of the white beauty which was her soul mate. The name Milamber softly rang in her mind. Even the power she had over her own mind couldn't sooth the pain she felt.
He would pay she thought...he would pay.

As she saw the gates open before her she began at a slow pace, entering the city which was named after the goddess of beauty.
The unfamiliar surroundings and the fact that 'this' was named after such a god kept her mind engaged while she mistakenly walked into a guard without noticing.
"Watch where you're going foul creature" he screamed. "This isn't one of your fancy forests...this is the most beautiful city in the world and you will respect the people who keep order in it!"
Kiara's mind began to enrage thoughts of the evil humans she had grown up with. Her childish 'friends' who used to pull her ears and call her names. She disliked being pushed by humans and now she had the power to act upon it but new now wasn't the time or the place. She began treatments of soothing her rage sub-consciously while her conscious mind spoke these words "I apologise for my abrupt behaviour sir, I assure you I will watch my step as my life continues".
"Ahh...make sure you do!" His voice softened confusedly.
The keen ability to have extremely extra sensitive hearing forced her to hear the guard whisper under his voice as he left, " Pointy eared freaks! If I had my way they'd all be dead".
From this Kiara now knew that her stay at Dellemar would have to be short, and if she could find elves in this forsaken land it would ease part of her communication faults with the other races, especially humans.

As she ventured around the large city, her unnatural ability to be literate in the common language of Korion gave her much aid in finding a suitable inn for her short stay.
She roamed the streets with eyes constantly in her direction, ignoring them as best as possible.
After an inadequate, expensive dinner she began her search for the group awaiting her, leaving her things unwisely at the inn.
They had agreed to meet at the Blue Shaft Tavern the next day but Kiara was too worried not to hope they might arrive one day early.
With no luck she ventured around the city which she thought of as small compared to the forest of Kirania, goddess of nature, where she calls home.
Before residing in her uncomfortable bed she thought of the guard in the afternoon which lead to thinking how awful most humans could be.
She recalled her human tutor who had her learning the arts of their magic since birth. She had mastered it by the age of sixteen but told herself never to use it unless the consequences were wurst than death.
Once she reached sixteen she recalled her first vision on the night of her birth celebration, it was the most beautiful thing she had seen in her life.
The goddess of nature had selected her from millions of elves around Kiriana to learn her power and Kiara came prepared. She new the art of nature took time, for some mere decades and others centuries.
As her thoughts wondered off into her childhood, recalling days of happiness and sorrow she unintentionally drifted into a sound sleep.

When she woke the sun was at the edge of the horizon awaiting to rise.
As she readied her position, facing the sun she began to drift. Her mind recalling lessons of magic from the human world and fine lines of thought the goddess had granted her when dreaming. Every time she lay to sleep she learned more and more about the arts of nature, but as all learning must take some effort she weaved the threads of silk which were her thoughts into a soft fabric which would unleash the force of nature at her command.
While in a state of mediation she thought for an instant at how her power would grow as she learned more and more which pushed her on and on.
As the sun rose over the edge of the horizon she slowly came out of her thoughts and stood upright while stretching her soft muscles.
She dressed, ready for another day of waiting and searching and left her room, her back slightly sore from the unusual accommodation.

A stream of joy overcome her, making her forget a day of sorrow while searching for her somewhat lost adventurers, when she saw the greatest friend to her of them all sitting with a table of three familiar elves, a minotaur and a human.
She became curious as she impatiently hurried to the table of mostly known faces.
"Kiara!" came a shout from the tallest of the elves on the table.
The night continued with introductions and stories of their childhood in Kiriana. Kiara accepted the minotaur as a friend but still had suspicions from her conversation the day before about the human whose name was apparently Shaidar.
The minotaur - Toabus, seemed to be as left out in this town as she was which made it allot easier for her to accept him as one of the group.
The human on the other hand rarely spoke which gave her the conclusion that he was definitely worth keeping an eye on.
She told them her situation and they all agreed to help her in her quest, but unfortunately two of the elves had to part in a small village near Kiriana. As she recalled her story to them she couldn't help but think of Milamber, their being together since birth only made it harder for her to control her feelings.
They agreed to stay in the inn she was resting in and decided they would leave at noon tomorrow after they had bought supplies and readied themselves for an adventure.

In the night Kiara heard unfamiliar footsteps at her door. As she pulled on her leather coverings and boots she tried to keep silent in hope to make the stranger surprised as he entered. She reached for her staff and kept it from hitting the floor, her elven boots and form of walking prevented her feet from making noise.
As the door slowly opened she saw a familiar face, not many new that elves had the ability to see in the dark.
She recalled the face and waited until his whole body had entered the room before putting the staff across his throat and abruptly saying "what business do you have with such a foul creature in the middle of the night?"
To his surprise the elf from the gates seemed surprisingly strong for one of her type. "Let me go you evil witch" he yelled as he reached for the staff which was slowly choking him.
His supposed response to her question was enough to wake the whole town but his effort at hiding his panic was lost as he ordered "GUARDS!"
Seconds later a group of weary guards entered Kiara's room in an unorderly fashion, surprised to see the captain in such a position.
Kiara saw a smile on his face as he began an evil laugh.
As much as she new she shouldn't, she had to, a life with this man would be a fate worse than death ten times over.
As she lowered her staff she warned "Leave me in peace lest I anger you further."
"Hahahahaha, you...a petty female elf, I'd like to see you TRY!"
"As you wish." After she spoke those words she began.
First her mind became clear and the power of human magic was restored in her thoughts. Patterns and symbols were recalled in her mind and were woven in her essence. As the symbols began to take shape her hands designed their power in the Korillion world. She drew upon powers her tutor had tout her to find, slowly but efficiently calling upon the essence of the power around her and focusing it into the symbol of fear.
As her magic continued to weave into a simple spell she came in contact with the human's mind. She could see into his thoughts, his family, his lifestyle. She saw his children and his commanding officer.
Her eyes opened and she could see fear on all of their faces. "Return to your homes lest my power be driven into your lives for eternity." Her words were firm and commanding, she new this was the only way to make them leave before the spell had been completely placed upon them.
The harshness of her tone, and the slight fraction of magic that had been placed in them made them run out of the room as if a dragon were chasing them.
Her mind was shaken...thoughts of fear were brought into her conscious mind. She dreamt of the time when her mother was misused by humans, her father cut to pieces after he objected to the use of his wife in a way such as that. She new this couldn't be because she wasn't in existence until nine months after that night. This magic she brought upon herself was too much for her to control.
A scream of though raced through her mind...seconds later she saw an elf who was using herbs to make a potion. Who could this be she thought.
As she approached the elf she saw it to be Riana, a close friend of hers since childhood. She was wearing a night dress, why would she be wearing this whilst making herbs.
Suddenly a gush of liquid fell down her throat, so fast she didn't have time to even taste it. She fell on her bed and drifted.

As her eyes opened she saw Riana by her side praying to Kiriana for aid with her troubled friend.
Kiara sat up in her bed and saw the relief in Riana's eyes while doing so. Her friend explained what happened and how ignorant Kiara was for using Human magic when she new the consequences if the magic was stopped. Kiara thanked the goddess for elven magic which was so much more complex but has so much less risk.
Riana explained that her companions were getting ready to leave as they had bought all their goods in the morning.
Kiara thanked Riana and said she had a few things to do and would meet them in an short time.
As Riana left the room Kiara readied herself for meditation, but new her power would greatly decrease as the sun was at it's peak at this time of day, but she hoped she wouldn't have to use it anyway.
